Turkish company Yuksel Insaat Saudia has won a US$35.7M contract to construct the Damad dam near the city of Jizan in Saudi Arabia.

The dam is being built primarily as a flood-protection structure, but can also be used for irrigation. It is part of a push by the Saudi government to build a string of multipurpose dams in the country.

According to local media, Damad dam will be able to hold 55.5Mm3 of water and will have a flood control value of 33.9Mm3. It should be completed in 2010.
