The company also signed letters of intent to purchase more than 50 million gallons of sustainable bio-fuels.

United Airlines managing director of global environmental affairs and sustainability Jimmy Samartzis commented that the entire industry at large stands to benefit from the collective work to find solutions that make alternative fuel available at commercial scale
and secure a sustainable future for aviation.

"We are excited to collaborate with other industry leaders in our shared quest to advance sustainable biofuels," said Samartzis.

United runs Eco-Skies program to ensure environment sustainability and claims to have made investments in modern, fuel-efficient aircraft and equipment to improve its fuel efficiency by 32%.
