The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change accorded its approved the construction and operation of the Brechfa Forest West Wind Farm in Carmarthenshire.

The proposed wind farm, developed by RWE Npower, will employ 28 wind turbine generators; each rising to a height of 145m.

Brechfa Forest wind facility is expected to have an installed capacity ranging from 56MW and 84MW and will generate electricity, enough to power about 39,700 homes.

Department of Energy and Climate Change spokesman remarked that the onshore wind plays a key role in the country’s energy mix.

"This development will enhance our energy security, help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create up to 150 construction jobs."
