Japanese trading house Tomen Corp plans to build a 20 MWe wind farm in the town of Tomamae, northern Hokkaido. Power from the 20 units will be sold to Hokkaido Electric Power Co under a 17 year power purchase agreement.
The trading house will lease the 100 ha site for the project from the municipality of Tomamae. It plans to install the 20 turbines, each with a capacity of 1 MWe, by next year. According to Tomen, the plant will provide more power than all the existing wind turbines in Japan.
