Narmada Hydro Electric Development Corporation (NHDC), a joint venture of the National Hydro Electric Power Corporation and Madhya Pradesh government, has synchronised the Indira Sagar Project (ISP)'s third unit and linked it with the grid almost ten months ahead of schedule.

NHDC synchronised the first two units on 1 and 12 January 2004, with approximately 180MW being generated from these units. Unit four’s stator and rotor have been lowered into the pit and are being made ready for commissioning this month. There are eight units of 125MW each at ISP, with total generating capacity of 1000MW. NHDC has scheduled to commission all of these by December 2004.
