Slovensky plynarensky priemysel, a.s. (SPP), as the warranter of the project on the use of geothermal energy in the Kosice basin in Slovakia, is interested in erecting a geothermal power plant in one of the three localities, in the Durkov estate. The geothermal plant is expected to generate 3.49 MW. The plant may be operational by the end of 2011. SPP exploratory and engineering works have been successfully carried out in the Durkov estate, together with the purchase of land.

SPP has already obtained the consent to erect the power source and connection to the grid from the distribution network operator, Slovenskej elektrizacnej a prenosovej sústavy a.s., and from respective municipalities.

“Expenses for the construction of the power plant in the Durkov locality, including funds already invested, are estimated at around EUR 30 million. We would like to launch the plant into operation by the end of 2011”, member of the SPP Board of Directors and Chairman of the supervisory Board Geoterm Košice, a.s. Hans-Gilbert Meyer, said.
