The company is designing a pilot plant under a grant from the US Department of Energy to demonstrate the performance of its biocatalyst delivery system for high efficiency carbon dioxide capture.

Commenting on the agreement Akermin president & CEO Barry Blackwell said that the project is a demonstration of its transition from laboratory testing field pilot testing and demonstration.

"The results from this pilot project will help to prove the viability of our technology to capture carbon dioxide from industrial processes and accelerate development of commercial partnerships and future demonstration projects covering multiple market applications," added Blackwell.

According to Akermin, its pilot plant is expected to capture over 90% of incoming carbon dioxide.
