A US$17.9M small hydro power plant is to be installed at the intake of the Vienna Danube canal in Nussdorf, Austria.

The scheme is to be built near Schemerl weir and will consist of a 30m long, 12m wide and 7m high over-flow hollow body weir with attached pneumatically operated spillway gates, twelve VA Tech Hydro Hydromatrix units and an operation building.

Work is to be carried out by VA Tech Hydro in consortium with its Austrian-based partners Porr Technobau and Verbundplan, the leader of the group, with commissioning of the plant expected in summer 2005.

The plan was awarded by Verbund-Austrian Hydro Power, EVN and Wienstrom, and will secure flow for navigation in the canal as well as comply with current weir operation procedures.
