Canada’s North West Territories government is considering the development of six dams on six major rivers, including the Mackenzie river, with a total installed capacity of more than 11,630MW. In addition to the Mack-enzie plant, which envisages the development of 10,500MW, the proposals includes the development of run-of-river hydro plants on Talston (200MW), Bear (600MW), Upper Snare (33MW), Lac La Marte (27MW), and Lockhart (270MW). No evaluation has yet been made of the power potential for the Slave river. The territorial government expects to earn revenues up to US$600M annually after the six dams are constructed. The power developed is to be sold in Alberta, Canada, and the US market.
