The 400 MWe Shoreham combined cycle plant near Brighton, UK, was back on line on 23 September following an outage that started on 24 July, prompted by indications of a compressor problem in the Alstom GT26 gas turbine. The plant’s owner Scottish Power decided to bring forward a routine outage planned for later in the year and combine repairs to the compressor – which is of the upgraded type recently introduced to the GT26/24 fleet – with routine maintenance activities. As of early October the root cause of the compressor problem was still under investigation.
