Following a militant attack on a flowstation in the Niger Delta, Royal Dutch Shell has closed some more of its oil production in Nigeria, reported Reuters.
According to security sources, three wells and some other equipment had been blown up in the attack.
The latest militant attack is the fifth one in just over a month. It follows a federal court ruling according to which one of the leaders of the rebel Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Henry Okah, should be tried in secret.
Previous attacks forced the company to cut oil production by 169,000 barrels per day in Nigeria with a pipeline bombing in April.
A Shell spokesperson said: A few oil delivery lines are affected and some oil has spilled into the environment. We are mobilizing containment booms to stop the spread of oil and have also shut in some production volumes.
