Sempra US Gas & Power has acquired the 100MW Apple Blossom wind project in Michigan from Geronimo Energy.

Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

When completed, the project will add to its portfolio of wind farms in 8 states with total power generation capacity of about 1300MW.

The wind power project is located in Huron County, Michigan which will generate enough clean energy to supply electricity to about 38,000 Michigan homes.

Construction of the project is expected to be completed during the fall of 2016.

Sempra U.S. Gas & Power renewables president of Kevin C. Sagara said: "We are pleased to have the opportunity to acquire, build and operate the Apple Blossom wind project in the state of Michigan as it continues to position itself as a wind energy leader.

"The acquisition of the Apple Blossom wind project enables our company to continue to invest in the development, construction and operation of renewable energy infrastructure.

“We look forward to providing Michigan with a stable supply of clean, renewable energy and becoming a long-term partner with the local community through the development and operation of this project."

At the wind project, at least 250 construction workers will be employed during peak season and the commercial operations will start by the end of 2017.

Power generated from the project will be sold to Consumers Energy under a 15 year power purchase agreement.
