Russia's Economic Development and Trade Minister, German Gref, says that the Russian government will shortly consider an investment programme for the electricity generation industry, including US$2.25B in the hydro sector.

According to the Interfax news agency, Gref noted that the programme envisages investing in hydro power in 2007, when overall investment in the industry will total US$6B.

Russia’s national electricity company, Unified Energy Systems (UES), said recently that it plans to add 2400MW of additional hydroelectricity generating capacity in the 2007-2009 period.
