Building upon their existing relationship, Russia's Rosenergoatom and Ukraine's Energoatom have signed an agreement relating to cooperation between the two nuclear energy outfits in 2007.

The cooperation between Rosenergoatom and Energoatom is based on their annual agreements since 2000.

This year, the Russian and Ukrainian nuclear power engineers are planning to cooperate on, among other things, nuclear power plant safety, scientific-technical (engineering) support, licensing, and repairs. The two companies will also be working together on emergency planning, emergency centers interaction, metrology, nuclear and radioactive waste treatment, and plant deactivation.

I hope that our cooperation will develop, commented Danko Billey, director general-safety director of Energoatom and Ukrainian co-chair of the coordinating committee. Our approaches to the development of nuclear power engineering are much alike and our development roads are parallel. So, we should use each other’s experience.

The cooperation agreement and protocol were signed during the 14th meeting of the Rosenergoatom-Energoatom Coordinating Committee in Moscow.
