The well will target the Pil prospect, which is located some 30km southwest of the Njord field in the Norwegian sea.

The main objective of well is to test the presence of hydrocarbons up-dip from the offset well 6406/12-1 S.

The primary target formation is the shallow marine fan delta sandstones of the Rogn 1 formation.

The secondary targets are the sandstones of the deeper Rogn 2 and Melke formations.

Pil has been mapped as a low to medium risk oil prospect with seismic Direct Hydrocarbon Indicator (DHI) uplift. Rocksource carries a pre-drill resource range estimate of 20-53 mmboe.

The well will be drilled using the drilling rig Transocean Arctic. Drilling is expected to take approximately 55 days.

Rocksource Exploration Norway holds a 15% interest in PL 586. Partners are VNG Norge (operator) with 30%, Spike Exploration 30% and Faroe Petroleum 25%.
