The wind farm would produce sufficient pollution-free electricity a year to meet the annual electrical demand of about 57,000 average homes.

Powys County Council will be consulted, and members of the public can also make their views known to DECC, who will take their views into account as part of the consultation process.

The location was selected as it sits wholly within the region preferred for wind farm developments, designated by Powys County Council and the Welsh Assembly, and because over three years’ studies have indicated that there are no constraints on the site and the wind farm will have no adverse effects on the environment.

Richard Evans, project manager for the Llanbrynmair wind farm proposal, commented “This is an exciting project because it will generate such significant amounts of electricity, enough to power the equivalent of all of the homes in Powys. We hope that the wind farm will be a real asset locally, not least because it will generate over £200,000 each year for a new community fund, which will be the subject of a separate consultation. We are also working with the RSPB and the Countryside Council for Wales to develop a habitat management plan, which will cover most of the site and will include the restoration of priority bog areas.”
