R3 has developed a patent-approved SPaCeR technology capable of high volume, energy efficient separation of pure water from a wide range of fluids including briny solutions, industrial waste streams, frac water and many others.

Li3 COO Thomas Currin said in collaboration with R3, the company will evaluate and possibly apply SPaCeR technology in the development of Li3’s Maricunga project.

"Amongst other end points, if proven, this technology will be valuable as it relates to reducing processing times, allowing for the collection of clean distilled water, and potentially reducing the capital expenditures required," Currin said.

R3 founder and CTO Roshan Jachuck said the natural processes associated with recovering lithium from naturally occurring brines are very slow and the evaporation ponds require significant land area in order to handle the volumes involved.
