The Government has contributed approximately US$1.75M to the development project, by the company of the same name – Pulse Tidal, and which will see the 150kW tidal stream generator feed into the national transmission grid.

A three-year trial programme s planned in the Humber estuary after which the prototype will be removed. The company aims to develop generators of approximately 1MW capacity.

The Pulse Tidal system is based on two horizontal hydrofoils, in tandem formation, that oscillate in marine current flows in a similar way to the flapping of whale or dolphin tails. The hydrofoils are supported on an offshore steel legged structure.
