The proposed refinery will have a capacity of 300,000 barrels per standard day and will supply naphtha and liquid petroleum gas feedstock for the RAPID petrochemical complex, and also produce gasoline and diesel.
PETRONAS said the petrochemical units will enhance the value of the olefinic streams coming from the RAPID steam cracker by producing merchant grades petrochemicals products such as polyethylene, polypropylene, synthetic rubbers and other products.
The company’s RAPID project aims to build an integrated refinery and petrochemical complex to support the growing need for specialty chemicals and to meet the demand for petroleum and commodity petrochemical products in the Asia Pacific region by 2016.
The contract is scheduled for completion in the second semester of 2013.
