The project, a result of a long technical cooperation between SQU and JCCP, was initiated to address PDO’s produced water treatment challenges, and is being executed by the SQU College of Engineering and Shimizu Corporation Institute of Technology from Japan.

The new pilot, which will combine chemical and mechanical treatments to improve the quality of produced water generated along with oil and gas, so it can be used for injection for enhanced oil recovery will be implemented on a larger scale by PDO following the trial period.

PDO managing director Raoul Restucci said that this pilot is the example of what can be achieved through cooperation with local institutions such as SQU and with international bodies, such as JCCP and, on a bigger scale, between Oman and Japan – developing a new technology of mutual benefit.
