Five new hydro power projects, with a combined capacity of 1204MW will be constructed in the North Western Frontier and Independent Jammu and Kashmir provinces of Pakistan.

According to official sources, these private power projects are being set up under the 1998 power policy. The Pakistan government introduced the new power policy to encourage investors to establish private power plants based on indigenous resources, mainly hydro power and coal.

The projects include: Khan Khawar (72MW), Golen Gol (106MW), Summer Gah (28MW), Daral Khawar (35MW) and Neelum Jhelum (963MW).

Prospective bidders for these projects have been invited for pre-qualifications.
