Norwegian utility Sunnhordland Kraftlag has signed a US$16M contract with GE Energy for the supply of equipment and services to the Blaafalli Vik hydro power project.

Under the terms of the deal, GE is to supply a 235MW 365.5m head vertical Francis hydro turbine; a vertical, synchronous generator with excitation system; mechanical balance-of-plant equipment and spare parts as well as carry out design and engineering; transport; training; installation and commissioning.

Deliveries to the new facility, currently under construction some 110km from Bergen, are to begin next January and will continue until November 2005.

When Blaafalli Vik is commissioned in September 2006, it will take over from the existing Blaafalli 1 and Blaafalli 2 power stations, which are scheduled for decommissioning.
