INDIA’S NATIONAL HYDROELECTRIC Power Corporation (NHPC) has awarded civil works contracts for the 2000MW Lower Subansiri project to Larsen and Toubro of Mumbai, India and to Boguchangesstroy-Soyuzgidrospetsstroy- Soma JV (BSS), a consortium of Russian companies.

Larsen and Toubro are to construct the power house and the water conveyance system. NHPC also awarded BSS the civil contract for concrete dam works. The project is scheduled for completion in six years.
Located in Arunachal Pradesh in north-eastern India, the project involves the construction of diversion tunnels, a concrete gravity dam and power generation facilities with an installed capacity of 2000MW (8×250 MW). The power generation uses the flow in the Lower Subansiri river located in lower Subansiri District, of Arunachal Pradesh and Demaji District of Assam.
