The government of New Zealand has announced wide-ranging measures,which could result in the antitrust commerce commission investigating the prices charged by transmission line and distribution companies.
Among other key decisions is that electricity distributors will be able to build small scale generators in order to reduce their transmission costs. Generation companies will also be required to report quarterly on any water they spill from their hydro dams to show if water is being wasted to push up power prices.
