The company is expected to complete a new substation, build new circuits, replace underground cables, inspect and replace utility poles. It will also install automated and remote control devices to improve electrical system and reliability.
Metropolitan Edison regional president Mike Doran said the planned investment will help the company maintain its electric systems and infrastructure by preparing for future demand and benefit its customers.
"Whether it be completing a new substation, installing equipment that can be operated remotely, or spending on vegetation management, our ultimate goal is to continue to enhance the reliability of our system to benefit our customers," Doran added.
Met-Ed will complete and power the Northkill Substation in northern Berks County for a cost of about $10m. It is designed to support local industrial and commercial growth and future development.
The company is spending around $2m in the York area to upgrade the transmission system. It will also install new sectionalizing devices at a cost of approximately $1m to reduce unplanned outages.
The subsidiary will install equipments to help maintain proper voltage levels to benefit Met-Ed’s industrial and large commercial customers, as well as inspect and replace utility poles.
