Lyon’s new project will comprise a 330MW solar farm along with a 100MW battery storage plant.
It will be constructed at Morgan in the Riverland region and is being touted as the world’s biggest battery storage and solar farm facility, as reported by ABC News.
The new Riverland project, which would feature 3.4 million solar panels, is expected to become the largest solar farm in Australia. Lyon’s new battery storage plant will also have 1.1 million batteries.
Previously, Lyon had announced a smaller 20MW battery storage and 120MW solar farm project dubbed Kingfisher in the northern region of South Australia.
Construction of the newly announced project in Morgan is slated to commence in the next few months. It is likely to create 270 jobs in the construction stage.
On the other hand, Lyon has scheduled to begin work on the Kingfisher plant in September 2018.
Lyon partner David Green, who revealed that the project will be completely equity funded, was quoted by the publication as saying :"If the 4.7 million solar panels at Riverland and Kingfisher were placed end to end, they would reach from Adelaide to Brisbane and back, and then all the way to Melbourne.”
Green revealed that the land for the Morgan project has been settled while grid connection has moved into an advanced stage.
In another development, Lyon had placed a bid for the South Australian government’s tender to build a 100MW battery storage facility.
