The fourth generating unit of the Lijiaxia hydro power station, the largest on the upper reaches of the Yellow river, will be put into trial operation in September of this year.

The power station, located in Jianza and Hualong counties in China’s Qinghai province, includes five 400MW units, with an average annual output of 5.9B kWh. The third unit was installed and commissioned last year (see IWP&DC, June 1998). Altogether three 400MW generating units have already been commissioned.

Construction of the project, which started in 1987, is being financed entirely from Chinese sources.
