The project, which is being funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, has been designed to provide or preserve jobs across the nation.

The renovations on the three-story building include replacement of the roof with Energy Star roofing system, installing new exterior post-industrial recycled content fiber cement board siding in place of outdated vinyl siding, replacement of decks, handrails and doors, changing bathroom fans with Energy Star fans.

The project, which will also include the installation of new energy-efficient windows, is expected to reduce the energy costs by an estimated 28% for fixed-income residents within the utility when the work is finished.

CDK Construction Services has been appointed as the general contractor for the building envelope project, which is expected to help reinvigorate the local economy by creating jobs. The project completion is scheduled for January 2011.

King County Housing Authority executive director Stephen Norman said that this initiative will not only provide dozens of good paying green jobs for the community, it will also enhance the quality, longevity, energy efficiency, and safety of this public asset.

“When completed we’ll see significant energy (and water) savings, as well as related cost-savings, and greenhouse gas emissions reductions,” Norman said.
