Japanese engineering company JGC led consortium has won engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to build Nghi Son refinery and petrochemical complex in Vietnam.

The consortium comprises Chiyoda Corporation, Technip, GS Engineering & Construction, and SK Engineering & Construction.

The turnkey contract was awarded by Idemitsu Kosan (35.1%), along with its partners Kuwait Petroleum International (35.1%), Vietnam Oil and Gas (25%), and Mitsui Chemicals (4.8%).

Under the contract, the consortium will build and commission the oil refinery about 200km south of Hanoi in Tinh Gia District of
Thanh Hoa Province with processing capacity f 200,000 barrels per day.

The second oil refinery project has been planned to meet the growing demand of petroleum products in the country and for export purpose.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2016.
