In its annual review of the financial year 1996/7, international consultant Halcrow has assessed its activities in the hydro power in-dustry. Projects which the company has been working on include the Platanovryssi dam in Greece.

Together with Malcom Dunstan and Associates, Halcrow has carried out a detailed design of the 95m-high, 270m-long RCC dam. The preparation of contract drawings and specifications was also carried out. Particular aspects of Halcrow’s work included finite element analysis for thermal and seismic loads, as well as specialist construction supervision.

Halcrow is also leading a group of international consultants in a master plan study of the development of the Se Kong, Se San and Nam Theun river basins in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

The study will assess the options for hydro power development as well as the mulitpurpose use of water within the basins.

Halcrow’s responsibilities within this project include managing the study and co-ordinating all technical input.
