Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) has signed an agreement to purchase 50 megawatts (MW) of wind energy from the Fowler Ridge Wind Farm in northwest Indiana. I&M plans in the near future to file the agreement for review by state regulators. The 20-year agreement will begin in January 2010, and be in addition to the 100 MW of wind energy that I&M began receiving from the Fowler Ridge facility earlier in February 2009.

The company also continues to gather wind-resource data in east-central Indiana for possible wind development there.

“This agreement is an important expansion of our generation resources to include more renewable energy to meet our customers’ needs,” says Helen Murray, I&M president and chief operating officer.

“This is good news for I&M, the environment, and our customers,” says Murray. “We need diversity in our energy generation, and the Midwest has the skills, energy and foresight to make that happen.”
