The utility spent E6 million to inspect the most intensively used high, medium and low voltage lines supplying the points of highest demand during periods of hot summer temperatures.

Iberdrola conducted ordinary inspections of some 25,000km of lines to detect anomalies such as broken insulators, damage caused by lightning, fallen trees, and nearby construction works. The company carried out inspection of an additional 17,500km of lines, inspecting support infrastructure and taking measurements to detect problems.

Thermodynamic analysis via infrared cameras was used to inspect another 5,700km of power lines. Iberdrola has also pruned the trees most likely to make contact with the power lines, along some 18,000km of lines.
