BOLIVIA HAS FROZEN electricity prices for the next six months, due to the availability of cheap hydroelectricity following commissioning this year of Hidroelectrica Boliviana’s La Chojlla dam in the Taquesi valley near La Paz, and other rain-filled reservoirs.
Power rates are adjusted every six months, on 1 November and 1 May based on supply and demand. The supply has exceeded demand in the last six months, and power costs have dropped as hydro generation is not as expensive as thermal power.
