The planned construction of a dam over the River Dráva by Croatia is being condemned by Hungary. The dam at Novo Virje would be in Croatia, but it would bank only a few kilometres from the Hungarian border. Analysts claim that this would be disastrous for wildlife in the nearby Dráva National Park.

The Hungarian government opposes the Novo Virje dam and has told the Croatian government to agree with the Epsoo Convention which requires that both parties affected by water management, prepare a study on the environmental effects and to conciliate on those plans.

The Croatian party agreed to follow the Epsoo Convention but has expressed determination that it will complete the dam.
