Humboldt Utilities has selected Elster’s EnergyAxis advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and grid performance management solution.

Humboldt Utilities serves the city of Humboldt in Tennessee, US and the neighboring areas with electric, gas, water and wastewater services.

As part of Humboldt’s "pay-as-you-go" system, which allows customers to pay for utilities as they use them, the utility has selected the EnergyAxis AMI.

Humboldt Utilities general manager Alex Smith said, "We were looking for an AMI system that had experience in remotely reading electric, gas, and water meters within one company. After a thorough evaluation, we selected Elster and EnergyAxis."

The utility will use EnergyAxis solution to collect hourly data from nearly 13,000 electric, gas and water meters and calculatecustomer’s daily usage of the services in order to accurately determine the bills.

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has implemented the new time of use (TOU) rates in the city.

The EnergyAxis will retrieve the actual TOU data from the meter, rather than calculating it and charging the customer only for the actual amount of energy consumed.

The system enables meter data collection, analysis, reporting, and network management from electricity, water and gas meters using a single head-end software system.
