Power produced from the wind farm will be delivered to homes and businesses in TVA’s service area in parts of seven southeastern states. The farm is expected to generate power this fall, subject to applicable environmental requirements and firm transmission arrangements being secured.

John Trawick, senior vice president of TVA, said: “This contract again affirms TVA’s commitment to providing affordable, reliable electric power at the lowest possible cost. Wind energy is an increasingly valuable part of our generation portfolio.”

The Pioneer Prairie wind farm has an installed capacity of 300MW. Horizon Wind Energy also has a long term power purchase agreement in place to sell 102.3MW of renewable energy from the second phase of Pioneer Prairie wind farm to AmerenUE.

With the recent contract, TVA has added up to 1,380MW of new renewable or clean energy resources to the generating system. The authority provides electricity for utility and business customers in most of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.
