GNPC senior geoscientist Michael Aryeetey said that although the Volta Basin is old, it is worth commencing exploration of oil and gas in there.

Lack of modern technology and research are two main reasons for inactivity at the Basin.

GNPC plans to gather data that will attract private exploration investments to the Volta basin.

The exploration region covers about 40% of the West African land area, reports gbcghana.com.

Aryeetey said that apart from the jubilee fields, 14 additional new oil sites have been discovered.

Ghana Minister for Youth and Sports Clement Kofi Humado said that the oil exploration in the Volta basin will begin as scheduled and will help in boosting Ghana’s economy
