The Gerusoppa 240MW (4x60MW) hydro project in India, which is also known as the Sharavathi tailrace scheme, is likely to begin operating in phases from October 2000. The entire project could be commissioned by mid 2001 at the latest.

The project uses water from the river Sharavathi in Uttar Kannada district in India’s Karnataka state. The project’s 58m high and 423m long concrete gravity dam has been constructed across the river. The power house will use four Francis turbines.

The project is part of an ambitious scheme which plans to provide irrigation and power through five dams and five generating stations.
