Chinese polysilicon producer GCL-Poly Energy has started construction on the solar photovoltaic (PV) project at the 20 schools in the San Diego Unified School District, US.

The 5MW solar PV project will consist of 23,000 PV panels to be installed on school rooftops and parking structures across 20 sites throughout the district.

The power project, which will be completed in October 2011, is expected to provide nearly 64% energy offset for the sites and 11% offset of the overall district’s power needs.

GCL Solar Energy, a subsidiary of GCL-Poly, has collaborated with the US-based solar energy developer AMSOLAR for this power project.
