A consortium formed by Gamesa and Iberdrola Ingenieria has secured a contract from Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) to build a 13.6MW wind farm in Kenya.

Called ‘Ngong II’, the wind farm will be located in Ngong, about 30km from Nairobi, and will include 16 units of Gamesa G52 turbine.

Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed within 18 months, the companies said.

Under the turnkey contract, the companies will engineer, supply, construct and commission the wind farm, which will be financed with Spain’s development aid fund – Fondos de Ayuda al Desarrollo.

Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa holds a 60% interest in the consortium, while Iberdrola Ingenieria holds the remaining interest.
