The Finnish Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) has approved the overall instrumentation and control (I&C) system plan for the Olkiluoto 3 European pressurized water reactor (EPR) being constructed in Helsinki, Finland.

The approval is part of a series of significant progress made in 2014 for the Olkiluoto 3 EPR reactor, following successfull completion of the reactor containment tightness tests in February.

Arvea received approval from Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) to start the testing of the I&C system at the test bay, ealier this month.

The I&C system is used for the operation and control of a nuclear power plant (NPP), and serves as a key component for reactor operations.

Claimed to meet the most stringent safety criteria, Arvea’s I&C technology has already been licensed in 16 countries to equip nearly 80 nuclear reactors with 14 different designs.

In addition, the technology has been certified by the French, British, and Chinese safety authorities for the EPR reactor.
