Italian power giant, Enel looks set to enter the Chinese energy market with the acquisition of a 49% share in Chinese company Capital Gas Investment.

The deal, said to be worth around $61 million, is still under discussion by the Enel board but now appears likely to go ahead, though no date for the deal has been confirmed.

Capital Gas Investment, is a gas distribution company currently under the control of the Beijing government. The deal is thought to be one of a number under consideration by Enel.
