Two people were injured in the fire accident, which was brought under control within about 15 minutes, reports Reuters.
Reuters quoted state oil firm ENAP as saying: "For reasons that are being investigated, at 9:52 (1252 GMT) a pump caught fire at the Topping II plant at ENAP’s Aconcagua refinery.
"Topping II plant has been stopped, along with another four units which have been halted preventatively.
With a refining capacity of around 104,000 barrels per day, the Aconcagua refinery’s fuel production is consumed by the capital Santiago.
The fire broke out at the ENAP-refinery during its scheduled maintenance period. The refinery is expected to run at full capacity again by the first half of December.
ENAP operates two major oil refineries, including Aconcagua and Bio-Bio, in Chile.
