Gas plant

The Bolivian power company Empresa Guaracachi SA (EGSA), an affiliate of GPU International, has announced that it has commissioned an additional 122 MWe of generating capacity in Santa Cruz. The additional capacity comprises two GE Frame 6FA gas turbines.

The extension of the plant, which cost around $65 million, increases the number of generation units at the Guaracachi site to ten. The total generating capacity at the power plant is now 283 MWe. Work on the project started last year.

The new units will raise EGSA’s total generating capacity to 338 MWe, which is over one third of the national total. Demand in Santa Cruz is rising, driven by the expansion of the city’s economy.
