Holland’s first offshore windfarm, the 108 MW Egmond aan Zee project, has begun commercial operations.

Construction work is still under way on the project, but some of the 3 MW turbines are already generating power. The 36 turbine wind farm is expected to be fully operational at the end of this year.

The Vestas V90 turbines form part of a demonstration project initiated by the government and under development by a joint venture of Nuon and Shell.

The wind farm is being built by Bouwcombinatie Egmond, a joint venture between construction company Ballast Nedam and Vestas.
