The residents on the west side of the city will receive a 96-gallon container, which will be collected twice a month through an automated system.
The residents out of the coverage area of the two pilot areas will have drop-off sites located throughout the city. Detroit will be adding more drop-off sites in July 2009.
Detroit plans to take the data collected from the curbside recycling program and the drop-off locations to determine the most effective method for implementing citywide recycling. The pilot program will be implemented for at least one year with citywide implementation within 18 months to two years thereafter.
