Research to pave way for wave generation

Regen SW, the renewable energy agency for the South West of England, has received a £195,000 ($370,000 ) grant from npower for a pioneering data collection project designed to speed up the installation wave farms. The north Cornish coast could be the site of wave farms within three years. St Ives Bay will be investigated by a wave measurement buoy some 20 km out to sea. Matthew Spencer, the chief executive of Regen SW, is quoted as saying, “This project will bring the UK’s first wave farm a little closer. We’re very aware of the great wave resource we’ve got off the South West coast, but with the help of this award we’ll be able to provide wave energy companies with accurate measurements from the sea.”
