State-run company Cuba Petroleo (CUPET) will build a new refinery in western Matanzas province, Cuba having a capacity to process 150,000 barrels a day.

The refinery construction is in line with CUPET’s investment program to expand its refining capacity and efficiency.

CUPET is undertaking capacity expansion initiatives at its other refineries in Cienfuegos and Eastern Santiago de Cuba.

The Cienfuegos refinery, a joint venture between with Venezuela, is currently processing 65, 000 barrels daily.

The output is expected to increase its output to 150,000 barrels following the expansion.
