CPS Energy has formed a partnership with Silver Spring Networks to develop smart-grid technologies in San Antonio, Texas, US.

Under the alliance, both the firms will lay the groundwork to implement smart energy and Smart City technology throughout CPS Energy’s service territory.

The partnership, which is part of the utility’s New Energy Economy initiative, includes expanding the initiative and opening of a new office in San Antonio for product testing.

Silver Spring will provide smart grid networking services and help expand the initiative’s economic development, job creation and workforce development efforts.

CPS Energy president and CEO Doyle Beneby said that the energy industry is undergoing a major transformation, driven in part by technological advancements and customer expectations for more information.

"Our CPS Energy team is committed to bringing together a broad group of innovators who can help our community prepare for the future," Beneby added.

"Silver Spring’s vision and world-class technology are an exciting addition to the New Energy Economy hub that is developing in San Antonio."
