Westinghouse Electric Company and its consortium partner The Shaw Group have announced that China’s State Nuclear Power Technology Company (SNPTC) has selected the Westinghouse AP1000 for four new nuclear power plants to be constructed at the Sanmen and Yangjiang sites.

Approximately half of the scope for the first four 1100 MW PWR plants will be sourced from within China, with this proportion set to increase as Westinghouse wins additional contracts for new plant work in China, the Toshiba Corp company says.

Steve Tritch, Westinghouse president and chief executive commented: “We now look forward to working with our Chinese customer to negotiate final contract details.”
